Depave

Depave promotes the removal of unnecessary pavement from urban areas to create community green spaces and mitigate stormwater runoff. Through community partnerships and volunteer engagement, Depave strives to overcome the social and environmental impacts of pavement with the use of action-oriented educational events, community stewardship, and advocacy to reconnect people with nature and inspire others. SHKS Architects held a depaving party and dug out the concrete in front of the office by hand. We planted trees, wildflowers, and lavender plants by hand for our local birds and neighbors to enjoy.

Lively engagement results in extraordinary places.

SHKS Architects finds elegance in necessity, elevating the core principles of each unique site and building project to reflect our clients' aspirations.

Through collaboration, care, craft, and discovery, we reveal architecture's inherent optimism, contributing to our local community and to the global stewardship of natural and built environments.
