Zoka is a small, locally-owned coffee roaster with several cafes in the Seattle area. Although known and respected nationally for authentic coffee-making craft, Zoka also exemplifies a commitment to its community. This project develops an architectural identity for Zoka that recreates the experience of their first location: a relaxed atmosphere to meet up with friends and colleagues in a cozy, flexible interior.
The customer areas provide a variety of opportunities for socializing and privacy. There are benches and chairs, places to be alone or sit in groups, and window seats and interior tables. Solo or with friends, the café design creates delightful, welcoming spaces.
Food prep areas are designed to be both highly functional and aesthetically pleasing. Zoka employees are serious about coffee and understand the value of hospitality; the kitchen space reflects their strengths in both.
Design guidelines and objectives were developed to translate Zoka’s concept into a brand appropriate for development in Japan.
