Ferndale Public Library
The Ferndale Library was designed to be Living Building-ready incorporating sufficient load capacity for later installation of roof-top PV. The project preserves a large natural wetland, optimizes views to Mount Baker and Schell Marsh and takes advantage of abundant natural light and breezes through environmentally responsive design. Western Red Cedar siding and the simple form draw on the material and spatial character of the simple agricultural buildings of the Nooksack River Valley.
The Library achieved Ferndale's "Eagle" requirements, equivalent to LEED Silver.
